I recently learned from my Herbalist that cilantro is a very powerful natural cleanser.
A simple recipe charged with the cleansing power of coriander (cilantro)… and, if you add fresh garlic, you can help clean your arteries at the same time!
Coriander, also more popularly known as cilantro has been proven to chelate toxic metals from our bodies in a relatively short period of time.
Combined with the benefits of the other ingredients especially Garlic, which also helps to clean and clear out the arteries, is a powerful tissue cleanser. (See the simple and wonderful recipe below).
Also, cilantro is known to be rich in phytonutrients, flavonoids and active phenolic acid compounds, all of which are very good for you. It helps to control blood sugar, lowers cholesterol and fights inflammation and free radicals. When given to diabetic mice, cilantro helped regulate insulin and lower their blood sugar levels.
Cilantro can act as a natural chelation treatment. Heavy metals like mercury enter your body through things like mercury leaking out of your amalgam fillings or eating contaminated fish. Cilantro helps the body flush out those toxins through your urine.
Cilantro is also great for clearing out bacterial and viral infections – especially when you’re dealing with an infection that just doesn’t want to go away. There is a compound in cilantro called dodecenal that does a wonderful job of killing the bacteria that causes salmonella.
Cilantro is also excellent for our digestive system – preventing nausea and gas.

From the “Coriander Chelation Pesto” recipe given below, two teaspoons of this pesto daily for three weeks is purportedly enough to increase the urinary excretion of mercury, lead and aluminum, thus effectively removing others toxic metals from our bodies.
Consider doing this cleanse for 3 weeks at least once a year. It is delicious on toast, baked potatoes and pasta.
Here’s the very simple and great recipe…
Coriander Chelation Pesto
- 4 Cloves of Garlic
- 1/3 Cup (shelled) Brazil Nuts
- 1/3 Cup (hulled) Sunflower Seeds
- 1/3 Cup (hulled) Pumpkin Seeds
- 2 Cup packed fresh Coriander (Cilantro, Chinese Parsley)
- 2/3 Cup Flaxseed Oil
- 4 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 2 Teaspoons Dulse Powder
- Braggs Liquid Aminos to taste
Process the coriander and flaxseed oil in a blender until the coriander is chopped. Add the garlic, nuts, and seeds, dulse and lemon juice and mix until the mixture is finely blended in a paste. Add a squirt of Braggs to taste and blend again. Store in a dark glass jar if possible to keep the nutrients in.
It freezes well, so consider purchasing coriander in-season and fill enough jars to last throughout the year.
